This photo was taken in 1896 which makes the family business 113 years old...The man in the middle who's daughter married my grandfather and opened his own store in late 1909 (are you confused yet?)....To cut to the chase, for years & years they advertised "A Family Affair Since 1910"....that would make the 2nd generation family business 99 years old...So this year, to heck with it....we are 100! The location of the above photo was taken next to the Erickson Saloon. Notice the pocket watches hanging in the show-window and the reflection of a horse & buggy going by. Thank's to the Oregon Historical Society who gave us this special family photo.

LA ROG BROTHERS 100 YEARS OLD TODAY!

MARY REMEMBERS NOV 22 1963 AT KISN
Mary started at Kisn in 1962, today this front desk marvel works at KXL. I was at the station recently and we were chatting about the great days at the Mighty 91. I asked her about her strongest memory of those years at Kisn and she replied "Without a question, the day Kennedy got shot"...She explained that on that fatal day she did not have her TV or radio on getting ready for work. Mary left her apartment that was located across the street from St Marys Academy downtown. As she was walking to the station, the Kisn news car pulled up and told her to get in. She then heard the news about Kennedy. When they arrived at Kisn on 10th & Burnside she was told to listen on the phone line to KLIF in Dallas for any up-dates and to hand any developments to Les Parsons who was in window #2 broadcasting the days events. Mary was the one who handed Parsons the note while he was on the air that read "Kennedy Died"
Mary Barringer Lee was in shock along with the rest of the Kisn crew. They walked over to the Fish Grotto for drinks and sat in silence. Parsons & Bill Howlett continued to broadcast. This was also the only time that Pat Pattee worked in the Kisn window, not to spin hits and DJ but to monitor the feed from KLIF in Dallas that was installed late in the day.
