Take a closer look at page B-2 of today's Oregonian (story on baseball-soccer story) and look at the last paragraph. Here it is if you missed it.
ON THURSDAY, THE COUNCIL DID APPROVE, ON A 5-0 VOTE, INCREASING THE SUPPLEMENT TO THEIR OUT-SIDE ATTORNEY'S $150,000 CONTRACT BY $100,000. STEVE JANIK OF THE BALL JANIK FIRM HAS BEEN ADVISING THE CITY IN NEGOTIATIONS WITH PAULSON OWNER OF THE BEAVERS.
WHERE ARE THE CITY ATTORNEY'S? STEVE JANIK IS ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE (PER HOUR) ATTORNEYS IN STUMPTOWN. THIS CITY COUNCIL KNOWS HOW TO SPEND OUR TAX DOLLARS! ARE THE CITY ATTORNEY'S NOT CAPABLE OF READING CONTRACTS AND OFFERING ADVISE?
When does it end....answer, when all the recall signatures are counted, and a 1000 people watch Sam leave by the back door.
Then where are the city lawyers...can any media here have the guts to ask, we need an answer on that one.

Nothing shocks my husband & I anymore. While we pay more & more (Hollywood Dist) in taxation and our business get's stuck with more permit fees & taxes, they write checks to this high priced attorney. I called by the way, there are over 15 on the payroll city attorneys. They must of been at the bottom of their class or they would be at Janiks firm! Very serious with all joking aside.

Repeating, I'm SO glad I don't live in the City of Portland....I feel sad for those of you who do....but, then again, who voted those crooks into office..!!!

They say one rises to their highest level of competency (or is that incompetency?). Evidently that speaks volumes of those willing to work for the city who evidently can't get the job done.
The City That Works - you over.

I just tapped my calculator. City is handing this shylock 20,000 a month.

I posed the question to KATU about why the out-sourcing when the city employs over a dozen lawyers. They probably won't have the balls to pursue it. I'm disappointed in Dan Tilkin, it seemed like he was going to be the Dan Rather of Portland, but his fire seems to have cooled, at least where city hall is concerned. Too bad. Is KATU management bought off?
