Born in Stumptown, Douglas Engelbart is best known for inventing the computer mouse! His lab was responsible for more breakthrough innovations than any other in the world. Engelbart is also famous for hypertext, Groupware and Interactive Computing. Engelbart graduated from Franklin High School in 1942 and later graduated from Oregon State and Berkeley (phd) . His graduate work led to a host of patents. In 1970 he received his U.S patent for a wood shaped computer mouse that had two metal wheels. Believe it or not, he never got a dime in royalties for his invention.
