Paul did mornings at Kisn and was a top talent. For a few weeks nobody paid much attention to the tarp across the street (where Roccos Pizza is today) covering the corner of the building...Well....The tarp came down and it was a copy of the Kisn window of the world with who sitting behind the board at 6am? PAUL OSCAR ANDERSON!!! The station was KGAR and P.O.A walked across the street with no notice. Don Burden the owner went after him with vengeance & in his attorneys hand was the non-compete contract that Anderson has signed. P.O.A was taken off the air and he went straight to the FCC spilling all the nasty dirty beans about Burden and his mission to make Mark hatfield the next US Senator. Hatfield was running against Bob Duncan at the time and Burden told the news department to cover Hatfield on the campaign trail. That did not sit well with the FCC and the reverb from this was deafening. Anderson worked in some big markets after Kisn. I was 15 and doing a weekend shift at KLOG in Longview, my Program Director was POA. Never met him once!
Quite a story. Terrific blog whoever this is.

And to take it a little further -- This was one of the 32 Charges the FCC used to go after KISN (Star Stations had 4 other radio stations KOIL AM-FM Omaha and WIFE AM FM indianapolis -- From 1966 The FCC went after Don Burden (Owner of Star Stations) Took them 10 years, but they pulled the plug on ALL stations - Sept 1976 - Minor crimes when you think of what has gone on today -- (I was an employee KISN 1971-1974)
This story on POA may have been the one that started it all!

Does anyone have knowledge of some of the wild parties that Don Burden used to have where wild, fun times were had by all attending including some of those political figures helped by his stations including the former senior Senator from Oregon Mark Hatfield?

My mentor in radio. He really cared about the medium. Had the pleasure of working with him at KISN (66) for him at KASH (68) and again at KEDO (early '70s). He was one-of-a-kind and a virtual father to me.

I remember the time that POA attempted to set a record for the
most consecutive rides on the "roller coaster" at the old
Jantzen Beach Park. He brought some beer along to make things
a little easier, after a few rides he found he had to get off
and use the rest room. I don't think any record was set, but
we had fun!
